Description

Delight in these fluffy and moist Red Velvet Waffles topped with a luscious cream cheese glaze. Perfect for a special breakfast or brunch, this recipe combines the rich flavors of cocoa and buttermilk with a vibrant red hue, finished off with a sweet and tangy glaze that melts in your mouth.

Ingredients

Scale

Cream Cheese Glaze

  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • ½ cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Red Velvet Waffles

  • 2 cups Bisquick mix
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 30 drops red gel food coloring
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Make the cream cheese glaze: Beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until smooth and soft. Add the powdered sugar and continue beating until the mixture is light and fluffy, scraping down the bowl sides to remove lumps.
  2. Add milk and vanilla: Mix in the whole milk and vanilla extract into the cream cheese mixture until fully combined. Set the glaze aside.
  3. Preheat waffle iron: Turn on your waffle iron and allow it to heat up fully before cooking the waffles.
  4. Mix dry ingredients for waffles: In a medium bowl, whisk together the Bisquick mix, brown sugar, and unsweetened cocoa powder until evenly blended.
  5. Combine wet ingredients: Add the buttermilk, whole milk, red gel food coloring, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry mix. Whisk until the batter is smooth and uniform in color.
  6. Cook waffles: Pour about ¾ cup of batter into the preheated waffle iron. Close and cook for 5 minutes or until waffles easily release and appear slightly crispy and browned on the surface.
  7. Serve: Drizzle the warm waffles with the cream cheese glaze and serve immediately. Repeat cooking with remaining batter.

Notes

  • Add more milk to the cream cheese glaze for a thinner consistency or reduce milk to ¼ cup for a thicker frosting-like texture.
  • If buttermilk is not available, substitute by mixing 1 tablespoon white vinegar into 1 cup of regular milk and letting it curdle before use.
  • Omit brown sugar from the waffle batter if you prefer less sweetness, as the cream cheese glaze is already quite sweet.
