Description

Honey Garlic Butter Chicken is a quick and flavorful dish featuring tender chicken breasts seared to golden perfection and coated in a deliciously sticky honey garlic butter sauce. This easy skillet recipe is perfect for a weeknight dinner, delivering a balance of sweet, savory, and tangy flavors with minimal ingredients and effort.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (5-8 oz. each)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup flour

Sauce

  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth (optional)

Garnish

  • Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar until well combined. Set aside.
  2. Pound the chicken: Use a meat mallet to gently pound the chicken breasts to about 1/2 inch thickness to ensure even cooking.
  3. Season and dredge: Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Then dredge each piece in flour, shaking off any excess flour.
  4. Sear the chicken: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Place the chicken breasts in the skillet and cook on one side for 4-5 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Flip the chicken: Turn the chicken breasts over and sear the other side for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned.
  6. Sauté garlic: Reduce the heat to medium and melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter in the skillet. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  7. Cook in sauce: Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce into the skillet. Let it simmer until the sauce thickens slightly and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165ºF, about 3-5 minutes. Optionally, add chicken broth here to loosen the sauce if desired.
  8. Coat and garnish: Turn the chicken to coat both sides with the sauce. Remove from heat, garnish with chopped parsley or green onions if using, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use boneless, skinless chicken breasts weighing about 5-8 oz each; for larger breasts, slice in half lengthwise to make cutlets.
  • Add 1/4 cup chicken broth to the sauce to make it saucier if preferred.
  • For a spicy kick, sprinkle red pepper flakes when adding the sauce.
  • Add a splash of lime or lemon juice at the end to brighten the flavors.
  • Ensure chicken is cooked thoroughly to an internal temperature of 165ºF for safety.
