Ingredients
Scale
Chicken
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (5-8 oz. each)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup flour
Sauce
- 4 tablespoons butter, divided
- 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 1/2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup chicken broth (optional)
Garnish
- Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar until well combined. Set aside.
- Pound the chicken: Use a meat mallet to gently pound the chicken breasts to about 1/2 inch thickness to ensure even cooking.
- Season and dredge: Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Then dredge each piece in flour, shaking off any excess flour.
- Sear the chicken: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Place the chicken breasts in the skillet and cook on one side for 4-5 minutes until golden brown.
- Flip the chicken: Turn the chicken breasts over and sear the other side for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned.
- Sauté garlic: Reduce the heat to medium and melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter in the skillet. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Cook in sauce: Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce into the skillet. Let it simmer until the sauce thickens slightly and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165ºF, about 3-5 minutes. Optionally, add chicken broth here to loosen the sauce if desired.
- Coat and garnish: Turn the chicken to coat both sides with the sauce. Remove from heat, garnish with chopped parsley or green onions if using, and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use boneless, skinless chicken breasts weighing about 5-8 oz each; for larger breasts, slice in half lengthwise to make cutlets.
- Add 1/4 cup chicken broth to the sauce to make it saucier if preferred.
- For a spicy kick, sprinkle red pepper flakes when adding the sauce.
- Add a splash of lime or lemon juice at the end to brighten the flavors.
- Ensure chicken is cooked thoroughly to an internal temperature of 165ºF for safety.
