Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons salted butter
- 16 ounces mini marshmallows, divided
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 6 cups rice krispies cereal
- 1 ¼ cups holiday M&M's, divided
- ¼ cup holiday sprinkles
- 5 ounces Ghirardelli white chocolate melting wafers, melted (1/2 bag)
Instructions
- Prepare baking dish: Line a 9-inch square baking dish with parchment paper to prevent sticking and set aside.
- Melt butter and marshmallows: In a large saucepan, melt the 6 tablespoons of salted butter over medium heat. Once melted, add 15 ounces of mini marshmallows (all but 1 cup) and reduce heat to low. Stir continuously until the marshmallows are completely melted and smooth.
- Add vanilla and cereal: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract. Add the 6 cups of rice krispies cereal and the remaining 1 cup of mini marshmallows. Gently stir to combine everything evenly without crushing the cereal.
- Fold in mix-ins: Carefully fold in 1 cup of holiday M&M's and all of the ¼ cup holiday sprinkles to distribute festive colors and flavors throughout the mixture.
- Transfer to baking dish: Pour the mixture into the prepared 9-inch baking dish. Press gently with your fingertips to spread it evenly and compact it lightly.
- Decorate and chill: Drizzle the top of the treats with the melted white chocolate wafers. Sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup of holiday M&M's on top, and add a pinch of extra holiday sprinkles if desired. Allow the treats to set at room temperature for one hour until firm.
- Serve: Once set, cut into squares and enjoy your festive holiday treats!
Notes
- Use any variety of holiday M&M’s you like; milk chocolate or peanut butter versions work well, although peanut butter has more crunch.
- Ensure marshmallows and cereal are fresh to avoid stale tasting treats.
- Prefer jimmies for sprinkles as they maintain softness and appearance; quins are a good alternative, but avoid non pareils for texture reasons.
- Feel free to swap holiday candy and sprinkles for any other seasonal or themed variations.
- Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week to maintain freshness.
- Treats can be frozen for up to 3 months wrapped well to preserve texture and flavor.
