Description

Harry Potter’s Hot Butterbeer is a magical, warm beverage inspired by the beloved wizarding world. This cozy drink combines creamy milk, rich butter, butterscotch pudding, and fizzy cream soda with a hint of ginger and cayenne for a gentle spicy warmth, perfect for chilly days or Harry Potter-themed gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 3.4 ounce box Butterscotch Instant Pudding
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp ginger paste
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Beverage

  • 1 2-liter cream soda

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a large microwavable bowl, combine 3 cups of whole milk, 1/4 cup of unsalted butter, and 1/4 cup of packed brown sugar. Whisk until combined.
  2. Heat Mixture: Heat the mixture in the microwave for 3 minutes. Remove and whisk again until the butter is melted and the sugar is fully dissolved.
  3. Add Cream Soda and Pudding Mix: Whisk in half of the bottle (about 1 liter) of cream soda, then add the 3.4 ounce box of Butterscotch Instant Pudding mix. Stir well to combine.
  4. Flavor the Butterbeer: Add 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, 1/4 teaspoon ginger paste, and 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper to the mixture. Whisk thoroughly.
  5. Finish with Cream Soda: Pour in the remaining half of the cream soda bottle and whisk gently to combine all ingredients evenly.
  6. Keep Warm: Heat gently to serve warm—either microwave briefly, heat on the stovetop over low heat, or transfer to a crockpot set on high initially and then lowered to keep the Butterbeer warm. Stir occasionally to maintain consistency.
  7. Optional Garnish: Top each cup with whipped cream or coconut whipped cream and drizzle with butterscotch or caramel sauce for an extra indulgent touch.

Notes

  • If the Butterbeer is too thick, add 1 cup of whole milk and stir to incorporate smoothly.
  • The ginger and cayenne add gentle warmth; adjust up to 1/2 teaspoon each for a spicier kick if desired.
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg for additional cozy spice notes.
  • Pair this drink with Harry Potter-themed treats like Chocolate Frogs or Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans for a themed experience.
  • Store leftovers in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days.
  • Reheat gently on the stovetop over low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent separation.
  • Freezing is not recommended as carbonation and dairy components don't freeze or thaw well.
  • Prepare the base mixture (all except cream soda) a day ahead and refrigerate; add cream soda just before serving for best texture and fizz.
