Ingredients
Scale
Garlic Butter
- ½ cup salted butter softened
- 6 garlic cloves finely minced or pressed
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
French Bread Pizzas
- 1 pound French bread or Italian bread
- ½ cup pizza sauce
- 8 ounces low-moisture mozzarella cheese shredded
- 15 pepperoni slices
- 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese
- Red pepper flakes (optional)
- Chopped fresh parsley to garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 400℉. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and set aside.
- Make Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, mix together the softened salted butter, minced garlic, and chopped fresh parsley until well combined.
- Prepare Bread: Cut the French bread in half lengthwise to make two long pieces, similar to preparing garlic bread.
- Butter the Bread: Spread half of the garlic butter mixture evenly on each piece of the cut bread, placing them cut side up on the prepared sheet pan.
- Initial Bake: Bake the bread with garlic butter for 5 minutes to slightly toast and melt the butter.
- Add Sauce and Toppings: Remove the bread from the oven and spread ¼ cup of pizza sauce on each half. Then evenly divide the shredded mozzarella, pepperoni slices, and parmesan cheese across the two bread halves.
- Bake Pizza: Return the prepared bread pizzas to the oven and bake for 18 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and the edges of the bread are golden brown.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven and let the pizzas sit for 2-3 minutes. Garnish with optional red pepper flakes, chopped parsley, and additional parmesan cheese if desired. Slice and serve warm.
Notes
- Use a bakery-style loaf with a soft crust for the best texture and flavor.
- For quicker preparation, substitute frozen garlic bread in place of the bread and garlic butter mixture; skip the garlic butter and simply add sauce, cheese, and toppings.
- Freshly shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese yields the best melty texture and flavor.
- Mixing some Parmesan with mozzarella enhances the cheesy flavor.
- Allow the pizza to rest for a few minutes after baking to avoid burning your mouth and to let flavors meld.
