Description

A Classic Hot Toddy is a warm, soothing drink perfect for cold evenings or to help ease cold symptoms. It combines whiskey or bourbon with freshly squeezed lemon juice, honey, and aromatic bitters, garnished with cloves, a cinnamon stick, and star anise for a cozy and flavorful experience.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • ½ cup boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 4 tablespoons whiskey or bourbon
  • 2-3 drops aromatic bitters
  • 2-3 teaspoons honey

Optional Garnishes

  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 slice lemon
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 star anise

Instructions

  1. Boil Water: Pour ½ cup of boiling water into a mug to create the warm base for your hot toddy.
  2. Mix Ingredients: Add 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice, 4 tablespoons whiskey or bourbon, 2-3 drops aromatic bitters, and 2-3 teaspoons honey to the mug. Stir the mixture well until the honey is fully dissolved.
  3. Prepare Garnish: Poke whole cloves into the peel of a thick lemon slice to infuse extra flavor and aroma. Place the lemon slice into the mug.
  4. Add Additional Garnishes: Drop a cinnamon stick and/or a star anise into the mug as optional aromatic garnishes to enhance the overall experience.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of honey to suit your preferred sweetness level.
  • Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor and freshness.
  • Whiskey and bourbon are interchangeable based on your taste preference.
  • Whole cloves can be omitted if you prefer a milder garnish or for those who dislike the spice.
  • The aromatic bitters add depth but can be omitted for a simpler toddy.
